Safeway Stores plc
Safeway Store & Petrol Filling Station, Bangor, Northern Ireland
First time achieved a financial target for PFS of under £1M
The works comprised a Safeway supermarket and Petrol Filling Station (PFS). To comply with legal agreements an existing traders’ market continued to operate on the site one-day per week for the entire duration of the project. This resulted in complicated phasing of the works to allow the market to continue to trade, with car parking etc being constructed in three phases.
The contract documents were written including bespoke phasing clauses which allowed the tenderers to fully understand the phasing impact. In respect of the PFS we participated in a design rationalization workshop process to ensure that the cost target was achieved.
The programme and cost targets were achieved partly due to our efforts at pre-contract stage. Further, the target for the PFS was to achieve total cost of under £1 million – a first for Safeway at that time.
